Platinum & Gold Collection: Iggy Pop

Platinum & Gold Collection: Iggy Pop

This is an unusual compilation. With just 12 tracks it could never be definitive, given Iggy Pop's long and tortured career. It features just one track from Iggy's first post-Stooges solo album, The Idiot ("Nightclubbing"), and two from Lust for Life (the title track and "The Passenger"). It does, however, include five songs from 1979's New Values. It's a curious decision to place this much emphasis on a single album that was never a commercial success nor considered as essential as those previous solo albums. This collection finishes with two tracks apiece from 1980's Soldier and 1981's Party, including the fantastic "Pumpin' for Jill." Unusual choices aside, these tracks are all fine tunes and serve as an unusual snapshot of Iggy's often-overlooked era of the late '70s and early '80s.
