Los Del Arroyo build monumental corridos from an inventively minimalist trio sound on La Casa Invita. The band's virtuoso guitarists can weave delicate ballads from a complex web of gorgeous melodies, but they also burn through rhythms so vigorous that you'll never miss the drums. And just as the music never settles into a singular mood, the storytelling is similarly kaleidoscopic, ranging from the menacing violence sketched in a few harrowing lines on "El Brujo" to the poignant saga of a hard-working ranch hand captured by "El Parcero."
