On their sophomore album Stories, Addison Road confronts spiritual redemption amidst the chaos of daily living. In 2009, the Christian pop/rock quintet found their confidence tested after losing all of their possessions in a vehicle fire while struggling with an assortment of family issues. “Fight Another Day” (written by TobyMac) sets the tone for the album with its buoyant melody and encouraging message. Lead singer Jenny Simmons delivers tunes like “Won’t Let Me Go” and “Change In the Making” in a resolute yet vulnerable spirit, touching upon everyday troubles while reaching out for salvation. “Show Me Life” and “Where It All Begins” joyfully embrace God’s love, while “This Little Light” speaks to the bond between parents and children. The music here possesses both sparkle and drive, combining acoustic and electric textures with a strong groove quotient. Retro synthesizer touches add extra tingle to “Don’t Wait” and similar tracks. Addison Road wraps up Stories with the swaying, R&B inflected “My Story,” underscoring the note of renewal that runs through the entire album.
