C'mon Les' Go - EP

Six years after his last release under the moniker, Toro y Moi’s Chaz Bear revives his Les Sins alias and joins forces with New York’s AceMo (Adrian Mojica) to deliver five late-night floor-fillers. Les Sins’ productions always showed clubbier tendencies than Toro y Moi’s hazy daydream jams, and that’s especially true here: In keeping with AceMo’s own hardware-driven style, all five tracks boast relentlessly focused machine grooves, electrifying synths, and energy-stoking vocal cut-ups. But for bangers, these midnight-hued cuts are unusually low-key, favoring skeletal hi-hats, muted tones, and muttered commentary. “C’mon Les’ Go” turns giggles and sighs into heads-down deep-house delirium; “Can’t Take It Anymore” and “Music” burnish ’90s tropes like rave stabs and vocoders to a dull gleam. And for all the moodiness of these tunes, they display a refreshing sense of humor: Just check the gonzo ad-libs of “Hello?” and “Holy Cow,” which explode with all the giddy energy of comic book sound effects.
