The Definitive Collection

The Definitive Collection

It's tough to get closer to the core of country-rock than this collection. The genre's patron saint, Gram Parsons, cut two albums fronting The Flying Burrito Brothers in between leaving The Byrds and going solo, and the "Cosmic American Music" he created with his band of former Byrds and future Eagles has inspired generations of alt-country artists. All the tracks from the first two Burrito albums (and then some) are here, from the aching love ballad "Hot Burrito #1" to the barroom rocker "Lazy Day." Soul was a crucial Burrito ingredient too, exemplified by shimmering, twangy covers of the James Carr hit "Dark End of the Street" and the Aretha Franklin classic "Do Right Woman."
