My Brother's Keeper

My Brother's Keeper

The North Philly duo OuterSpace (a.k.a. Crypt the Warchild and Planetary) are closely affiliated with Jedi Mind Tricks, who cosigned them on their 2004 debut album released via Babygrande. Outerspace are also part of the Army of the Pharaohs collective, alongside JMT, Snowgoons, La Coka Nostra, and Celph Titled. Originally released in 2011, My Brother's Keeper is their fourth full-length; it features the same style of intelligent-yet-thugged-out wordplay that their international fanbase has come to expect, set to plenty of spooky samples and neck-breaking drums. While their sound is fairly one-dimensional, it still sounds great—whether they're calling out shady labels ("Slap 'Em Up" with Doap Nixon), rhyming about doing dirt at the corner store ("Bodega Gospel" featuring Blacastan and Esoteric), or demolishing haters over fuzzed-out guitars and melodramatic pianos ("Behead the Kings"). These cats just keep getting better. Highly recommended.
