I Did Something Bad

I Did Something Bad

This eccentric Swiss foursome spend much of their intriguing debut album laying crusty gutter-punk vocals atop a rubber trampoline of funk-metal basslines, then performing variations on that hybrid. Brace yourself for speedy art-rock changes in “The Great Ass Poopery”; shoegazey mulch-and-yawp in “Dominium Mundi”; and pop-grunge riffs plus an extended blues-rock guitar solo in “Hamster’s Ghosthouse.” Just when you think they’ve slipped into super-serious prog-revival territory with “Gog” and “Your Wife,” they wind up strumming “9 Is Better Than 8,” an intentionally silly busker-folk ditty.
