La Última Misión

La Última Misión

When Wisin & Yandel first split, in late 2013, to explore solo careers, their fans naturally hoped that it wouldn’t last. After the duo officially reunited some five years later with Los Campeones del Pueblo and released countless features in the subsequent years, the 2022 arrival of La Última Misión hits differently. If, as the title suggests, this truly marks the final full-length bow for the pair, the reggaetón giants are ending their decades-long album run on an undeniable high note as living legends. Here to see them off in style is a multigenerational coterie of Latin music luminaries, from hitmaking producers Luny Tunes, Los Legendarios, and Tainy to vocal dynamos Chencho Corleone, Ozuna, and Jay Wheeler. As should be expected, the album leans heavily on reggaetón rhythms, manifesting for the modern era with J Balvin on “La Realidad” and with ROSALÍA on “Besos Moja2.” The celebratory “Party y Alcohol” throws it back to the massive “Rakata” alongside other nods to their perreo-laden catalog, while “Chica Bombastic” interpolates a signature Shaggy hook for their own hedonistic purposes. When Wisin & Yandel do diverge from the genre that defined them, as on the clubby “Miami” with Jennifer Lopez, it serves to remind that their talents are as huge as their influence.
