The Other I

The Other I

For their second album, the duo 2:54—featuring sisters Colette and Hannah Thurlow—further investigate the moody brilliance of their debut. The sturdy consistency of their rhythm section, Joel Porter and Alex Robins, frees the sisters to explore a variety of tones and approaches, from the Cure-like goth-pop terror of “Orion,” “Blindfold," and “In the Mirror” and the solemn but simmering mystique of “No Better Prize” to the manic postpunk mechanics of “Crest” and the acoustic-based beauty of “The Monaco.” Even touches of ‘80s mainstream pop affect the flowing grace of “Pyro,” where Kate Bush appears to melt into Pat Benatar.
