Throughout Sempiternal, Bring Me the Horizon soften their metalcore stance by emphasizing surging electronic programming and more overtly melodic flourishes. Strings add an anxious grandeur to "Crooked Young," ice-melting piano and searing gang vocals mitigate the thorny fury of "Sleepwalking," and anguished synths augment the post-hardcore rush of "Can You Feel My Heart." Still, Sempiternal's occasional aggressive outbursts make it clear that the band haven't totally forsaken their heavy roots, with "Shadow Moses" boasting concrete-drilling riffs and Oli Sykes' frantic, gravelly vocals.
