Not many indie bands play New York’s Guggenheim Museum; fewer still turn their performance into a sprawling, 27-minute collage of pulsing ambient atmospheres. Part One begins with ominous drones, bathyscaphe clank, and the sounds of bubbling water. Deakin’s vocals drift over free-floating guitars; everything feels unmoored. In Part Two, woozy freak-folk jams dissipate in a fizz of shortwave static before pitched-down voices and flickering synths hint at avant-techno’s psychedelic soundscapes. Just like the museum’s spiral design, the set digs a corkscrewing furrow in your brain.
