A tour with their Dirtee Stank label boss Dizzee Rascal reminded Newham Generals that grime’s origins are in dance music and that thought drove the construction of this debut album. Generally Speakingis designed to ignite dancefloors without sacrificing grime’s steely bullishness. “Mind Is a Gun” is a rush of breakbeats and rave synths, “Movin’” applies an accordion to body-shaking hip-hop, and “Heard You Been Smokin’” makes space for some cock-eyed experimentation among the warm grooves.
