Apple Music Home Session: Safia Nolin

For her Home Session, Montreal singer-songwriter Safia Nolin took a very different tack than most artists: “Since most of my songs are already stripped down, I picked two different artists to redo my songs,” she explains to Apple Music. The result isn’t the pared-back rendering you’d usually hear throughout a Home Session. Instead, with the Montreal group Totalement Sublime, Nolin reimagines 2021’s “1000” with new percussion and synth atmospheres; C.Cole helps her take the searing indie-rocker “PLS” into more electronic, beat-driven territory. “I discovered that it was possible to completely change the meaning and emotion of the song,” Nolin says of her reworkings. But perhaps the centerpiece here is her cover of Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High),” to which Nolin brings a newfound tenderness—along with gorgeously shimmering guitar lines.
