Silver Silver

Silver Silver

Whether he’s putting out his own R&B- and rock-inspired dance singles or remixing artists like Mike Posner and Carly Rae Jepsen, Kid Froopy makes music to soundtrack both joy and heartbreak. Released on Canadian dance duo Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats label, the Iowa-born, Los Angeles-based producer and singer’s debut album, Silver Silver, brings together his cinematic songwriting style with new musical sensibilities. On opener “New in Town,” he sings about the struggles of moving to a new city as gentle guitars and traffic noises give way to a cascading beat and choir-style vocals. And “Some Nights I Feel Like Crying” owes as much to country as electro-pop. But where he’s most at home is on the personal-sounding uptempo tracks “Easy Love” and “Meet Me in the Garden”: He’s a romantic at heart, and these songs’ lyrics sound like they’re off pages ripped from somebody’s diary.
