Kol Nidrei: Elegy for Pamela

Kol Nidrei: Elegy for Pamela

Pamela Majaro’s mission was getting young people excited about chamber music, and her charity CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust has been lauded for its tireless work. Upon her death in 2016, Pamela’s husband commissioned six string quartets in her memory from some of today’s most celebrated composers. Cheryl Frances-Hoad’s Invocatio is a simple, affecting work, while Cecilia McDowall references Beethoven’s Cavatina in her “To a Nightingale,” birdsong suspended over ethereal harmonies. Roxanna Panufnik, Freya Whaley-Cohen, David Knotts, and Mike Haasler, along with Beethoven and William Zinn’s “Kol Nidrei Memorial,” contribute to a poignant, tenderly performed tribute.
