Admittedly, the well-deserved rise of paopao may have caught some people off guard. Yet after making considerable waves last year with the iZaak collaborative EP relaciones tóxicas and her solo follow-up diamantes y espinas, this expanded edition of the latter EP for Rich Music brings the Puerto Rican singer-songwriter’s talents to the fore once more. The key additions here come via remixes, with Ingratax and FMK hopping on “cuenta” and Mora featuring on “algo así,” as well as an evocative pair of originals via the reggaetón minimalism of “n la disco” and the drill-adjacent “gatx.” Notably, the project’s overtly eroticized cuts, like “noches largas, faldas cortas” and “algo así,” set it apart, providing an explicit, femme-forward perspective often unheard in this male-dominated field within Latin music.
