While certainly not the most famous Elian Gonzalez in the world, this Cuban American artist is making a name for himself nonetheless. Having successfully made the career transition from producer to vocalist, the Miami-born Gonzy specializes in a stylistically sleek and evocative blend of pop, R&B, and reggaetón befitting the current contemporary crop of rising Latin stars. After collecting some singles and standouts for his 2022 mini-album MI FANTASY, he returns nearly a year and a half later with the polished and persuasive DESAHOGO. Among its highlights are “MAL AMIGA” and the snappy, club-ready “LA CALMA” with Oliver Kid. On “ORGULLO,” he teases out a slinky bachata rhythm while yearning and flexing in both English and Spanish. The like-minded and similarly bilingual LATENIGHTJIGGY joins for “OJOS CERRADOS,” an uncensored duet that caters to the respective objects of their desire as much as it pines for them.
